FIFA World Cup Round of 16 - Germany Vs England Preview
by
Suresh Iyer
On Sunday, Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium will see a match up between two former champions, England and Germany, a game that Beckenbauer has labelled aptly as being more worthy of a semi-final than a round of 16 affair. Germany began their World Cup campaign, spectacularly, with a 4-0 thumping of Australia. Just when fans and the media were going berserk with superlatives, they were brought rudely down to earth, with a 1-0 loss to Serbia that witnesses some contentious refereeing.

Who Will Win in Quarter Finals of World Cup 2006 Germany
by
Anand Mann
To my mind the last great world cup which is etched in every football fan memory is the one of 1986 in Mexico. After that we had a low scoring and boring world cup in Italy, a heat influenced world cup in USA 94, a controversial and lopsided final in 98 and a heat, fatigue and referees robbed one in Korea Japan 2002.

Another classic World Cup encounter awaits! This one should have been at least a Semi-Final, but we get to see a rampant Argentina side take on the ever efficient and yet, slightly more cosmopolitan, German team. Who's going to win it, that's the question...

by
William K White
It's been 44 years since England lifted the world cup in the glorious final of '66. The hard fact is since then England supporters have had to endure the frustration and hurt as each world cup ended with their country's expectations in tatters.

England And The World Cup - A History
by
Steve Goodwin
England won the World Cup in 1966 and expectations have been high for a repeated success ever since. Every four years the England team carry the hopes of millions of English football fans that they can recapture the World Cup. Although England have come close they have fallen short at each World Cup, sometimes through controversy and often through England's nemesis, penalty shoot outs.

FIFA has started now. Today, the round 16 match was to be held between Germany and England. However, fans did not have much hope from the latter team since David Beckham is not playing this time. However, England has Wayne Rooney on their side.

World Cup Semi-Final Preview - Spain Vs Germany
by
Suresh Iyer
If you had predicted, before the World Cup began, that Germany and Spain would meet in the World Cup Semi-finals, very few would have refuted your prediction. But had you said that Germany would beat England and Argentina, en route, there could have been a few raised eyebrows. Especially as Germany, a relatively inexperienced team, lost their only experienced player, captain, Ballack, to injury, on the eve of the cup. Spain were pre-tournament favourites. Nobody could have predicted that they would lose their opening group match to Switzerland, or play less fluently than they did at Euro 2008...
