The Kids Are All Right
by
Nancy McDonald
The Kids Are All Right takes a look at an unconventional family with universal problems. Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore) are a lesbian couple raising their two children whom they conceived through artificial insemination. Nic is a doctor who hits the bottle a little too often while Jules is indecisive in her career, despite being in her forties.

PORN, A BETTER LOVE STORY THAN "TWILIGHT" - "Don Jon" Seduces With Poignancy
by
Paul Anthony Llossas
Who would have thought a film ostensibly about porn addiction would be enjoyable in a non-titillating fashion? But then, Don Jon, an artistic dramedy trifecta by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who serves as writer, star, and director), is not about porn addiction. That's just the hook to get the viewers in the seats.

The Kids Are All Right (Lisa Cholodenko, 2010) - New Movie Review
by
Maxwell Anderson
Lisa Cholodenko makes a lot of good decisions in the smart, funny, and wise The Kids are All Right. The risk of realistic domestic dramas is that they can become overly sentimental, preachy, or acquire a stultifyingly serious pose. This film does none of those things.

These Two Films Create Confusion or Unbelievably Overblown Drama
by
Ed Bagley
Ocean's Eleven is a confusing film about a $160 million heist of three Las Vegas casinos from an impenetrable safe 200 feet underground. I say confusing because it is not really evident whether Ocean's Eleven is supposed to be an action flick, a comedy, a crime story or a drama. The Hours features three depressed women from three different generations trying to cope with life, some Academy Award-winning performances and a story line that is even more depressing and repugnant.

Review Of The End Of The Affair - By Graham Greene
by
Mtutuzeli Nyoka
With The End of the Affair, Greene is able to speak to the collective human experience that in all of us there is a suffering victim desperately seeking meaning to life. To place the story during the World War 2, perhaps Greene was pointing to the faults in society, the senseless and apocalyptic power of war, which led to social wretchedness and the decay of the human spirit. Many of those who lived through this war had also witnessed the carnage of the first Great War.

"Carrie" Is the Queen of Horror This Season
by
Zack Mandell
"Carrie" was by far the most highly anticipated horror movie of the year. The film is based on the original 1976 film, which in turn was based on Stephen King's 1974 novel of the same name. "Carrie" tells the story of a young girl named Carrie White who is thrown from her sheltered home life into the hectic halls of public high school.

A Deeper Look at "The Kids Are All Right"
by
Joan Chamberlain
This is a "slice of life" movie. It takes place over a couple of months or so in the lives of two lesbian women, Nic and Jules. Each of these women was impregnated by the same anonymous sperm donor and each bore a child. The eldest kid, Joannie, is finishing her senior year in high school as a National Merit Scholar. The younger boy, Laser, is still in high school but bored with it, into sports and, unfortunately, has a loser friend.

The Kids Are All Right Is a Pedestrian View of Same-Sex Marriage
by
Alysia George
The Kids Are All Right stars Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as a lesbian couple raising their teenage children, played by Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson. They each gave birth to one of the kids, both using the same sperm donor. When their son, Laser, wants to know about his birth father, his older sister Joni arranges for the two of them to meet the donor, played by Mark Ruffalo. What follows is an emotional account of how their lives are all changed by this meeting.
