Steve Goodwin

by
Suresh Iyer
Liverpool's fortunes have fluctuated since the arrival of Kenny Dalglish, and the Anfield squad will want to play to potential in a game that could boost them immensely at the fag end of their Premiership campaign. Currently in sixth place, a win against City could propel the Reds to a European qualification. That said, Man City who are 10 points adrift of leaders Man United will want to win most of their remaining seven games to keep their fading title hopes alive. Liverpool will not have it easy, despite home advantage.

A Brief History of Liverpool
by
Susan J Ashby
Whilst archaeological evidence shows that there was a fishing community on the banks of the Mersey estuary, at the place we now call Liverpool, dating back to the 1st century AD, it's not until 1190 that the first recorded comment about the city is made. At that time it was known as Liuerpul or Lifer Pol, which simply meant muddy creek. Prior to that it is thought the name Elver pool was used, making a connection with the large number of eels in the Mersey estuary.
