Review: Dot To Dot Festival - Manchester
by
Noel C Mellor
Since its humble beginnings seven years ago, Dot To Dot Festival has gone from strength to strength and has served up sets from bands that have gone on to see incredible success. In the past, this has meant shows from the likes of Mumford
Sons, Florence
the Machine and The XX - but this month it focused back on some lesser-known acts hoping to break through in the same way. Taking place across three cities - Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester - the event has a pretty ambitious mission statement.

Don't Get Tangled Up! 3 Top Tips to Keep Your Cables Tidy
by
Toby Bateson
We all know the scenario right? You are happily listening to music on your iPod with your headphones, then you shove them in your pocket for the rest of the day. By the time you get them out again in preparation for another relaxing journey listening to your specially prepared playlist, your headphone cables resemble a disaster zone. So instead of nodding your head to the latest Jake Bugg album, you spend the rest of your journey untangling your cords in a futile game of 'Cat's Cradle'.

The Top Ten Ways to Get You in a Better Mood
by
Demond L Jackson
Exercise - OK, I'll admit. Maybe I should not have chosen exercise as my number one thing to get you in a better mood. And honestly I can't explain why or how the act of just exercising can have such a positive effect on your attitude. I normally work out the first thing in the morning and again just before bed. It doesn't matter what surprises life has dealt to me, exercise immediately changes my physical and emotional state.

North to Alaska - Again and Again
by
Barbara Carpenter
As luck would have it, I woke up at 4:10 a.m. this morning and looked outside to a beautiful dawn in the Lynn Canal heading towards Skagway. The first thing I saw was a beautiful little lighthouse on it's own little island in the middle of Lynn Canal. It was still kind of darkish out but definitely getting lighter and as the ship literally glided down the canal on the glassy waters, the snow capped mountains began to brighten up and their reflections in the waters was simply gorgeous.

Top 5 New Year Songs

What guitar pieces do you play at a New Year celebration? There are very few "traditional" New Year songs, with the exception of course of Auld Lang Syne, and even fewer songs that are available to be played on acoustic guitar. But don't despair, we've put together a list of our five favorite New Year songs for acoustic guitar; five pieces that are relatively easy-to-play and that you can add to your repertoire and play to impress and inspire on New Year's Eve.

1987 - The Year In Music
by
Darren Robbins
In January, Husker Du release "Warehouse: Songs And Stories". On the eve of their '87 tour, the band's manager committed suicide, forcing guitarist Bob Mould to take over management duties, furthering the rift between himself and drummer Grant Hart. The band managed to finish the tour, but broke up immediately afterwards. The album's three singles - "Could You Be The One?", "She's A Woman", and "Ice Cold Ice" - all performed well at college radio, yet receiving only moderate MTV airplay.

"This Is the End" Delivers an All-Star Cast
by
Zack Mandell
Ensemble casts filled with big Hollywood names are extremely popular with moviegoers, and the cast of "This is the End" delivers some of today's biggest names in comedy. This film takes a look at the end of the world as it can only be imagined by the mind of Seth Rogen and fellow writer/director Evan Goldberg. It's hard to say who the most famous star is in the "This is the End" cast, but the three main stars of the film have certainly earned huge followings among moviegoers.

Movie Review - Funny People - 8 Out of 10
by
Bill Bonfanti
Judd Apatow's third film, Funny People, starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann is not the raunchy comedy one would expect from the director of The 40 Year Old Virgin or from seeing the trailers. The film is more drama than comedy, but to classify it as a dramedy would be a mistake. Funny People really is a character study more than anything else that focuses on George Simmons (Sandler), a stand-up comic turned movie star who begins to reevaluate his life after being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder.

Paul - Movie Review
by
Josh Lyons
Despite its slight shortcomings, Paul does indeed provide several laughs and some good entertainment. While possibly slightly generic/bland, the movie is a fun ride and one that will surely please any Pegg or Frost fans while also making sci-fi nerds a bit giddy over the inside jokes/references. For any fan of this pair's previous two movies, Paul may not end up being your favorite of the three, but it's definitely worth the watch and you won't leave disappointed.

Pineapple Express is definitely an underrated movie. What is the Future For British and American Comedy?
by

The Hollywood comedy club that has come to dominate mainstream cinema is in danger of running out of steam. What is the future for British and American comedy and can we expect any original thinking?

Paul Review
by
Nancy McDonald
Before I dive deep into my review of Paul, I think I should admit right here, right now that I love Simon Pegg. I could watch Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz on a continuous loop for the rest of my life. I feel that they are some of the smartest, funniest movies around. What these two movies have in common is a triple threat. The trifecta in this case is Pegg, his trusty, hefty sidekick Nick Frost, and director Edgar Wright (who also co-wrote the films with Pegg). So, let's go down the list, shall we? Pegg can act, be hilarious, looks great in a cop's uniform, annnnd he can write. It's because of all of these reasons, plus many more, that I love Simon Pegg. This will not, however, sway my review of Paul.... And this is unfortunate for Mr. Pegg.

Movie Review: "Pineapple Express"
by
Zack Mandell
Seth Rogen reteams with his former "Freaks and Geeks" costar James Franco in "Pineapple Express" as a pair of men in a state of arrested development. Rogen plays Dale, a process server driving a car from the 1970s who realizes how much people hate his field of work. He seems to reluctantly enjoy his job, even though he is regarded as a social pariah as a result of it. Despite being an ace at his work, Dale does have some issues, not the least of which is his teenage girlfriend Angie (Amber Heard), who is pushing him to have dinner and meet her family. To deal with Angie and the drudgery of everyday life, he smokes copious amounts of pot, supplied to him by Saul (Franco).

Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express Review
by
Oscar Sierra
I read in the news that people were protesting against Tropic Thunder because its politically incorrect when heard that was the reason that they were protesting I thought why? I saw the movie before people started protesting and I will say it is very offensive but still I have seen worse and those movies have never been called offensive. The movie is very funny I knew I had to go see it in theaters when I first saw the trailer for it I mean how many times do you get to see Robert Downey Jr. in black face. If your going to see this movie you better get to the movies early because they show fake trailers of movies that the actors in the movie star in I was laughing so hard when I saw them. In the movie almost all the actors have personal problems and they deal with their problems while trying to rescue one of their own. One thing I especially like about this movie Tom Cruise who plays a fat bald movie producer his part in the movie had me laughing out loud.

"Ryan's Daughter" Is a Love Triangle With Passion, Adultery, Rebellion and a Village Idiot
by
Ed Bagley
"Ryan's Daughter" is a love story that evolves into a love triangle set in the epic splendor of an isolated village on Ireland's scenic Dingle Peninsula. Like all love triangles, it ends in a disaster that becomes a tragedy. Cinematographer Freddie Young captures the raw beauty of Ireland with its ocean cliffs, green countryside, lazy pastures and hidden forest love nest. He won an Oscar for his filming.

Recently it has become apparent that many of us, in fact the majority of us, in the United States have failed to draw that line of distinction between mainstream and extremism. In layman's terms it would be that line between being average and being a nut job. It has become acceptable in the United States to indict the whole, based upon the actions of a few. Less surprising is the fact that we find fault with others who do the same to us good Americans.

How Can You Make Sense Of Christ's Claim To Be The Son Of God
by
Stephen Russell-Lacy
A basic teaching of Christianity is that there is only one God but in three distinct divine persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit: each said to be God. Many Christian theologians themselves admit they have found it impossible to come up with a persuasive and rational explanation for three Gods in one. So they call this a mystery. Any lack of understanding in what the churches teach, I suppose, is not necessarily a problem for those of faith. Having said that, I suspect this central dogma is a major obstacle for many other people who won't believe in something they don't understand. Here is Swedenborg's explanation.
