NHL trade deadline

NHL trade deadline
When is the NHL Trade Deadline?
by
Jackson Tremont
The NHL trade deadline is a pivotal point in the hockey season when teams that are not in serious contention dump payroll and teams that are gunning for the Stanley Cup shore up their rosters. Even serious fans of the game can be excused for not knowing the deadline offhand; it has changed in recent years.

Top 10 Trade Deadline Deals of the Decade
by
Gary J. Wilson
As part of my series of articles reviewing the best and the worst of the past decade, I decided to take a look at the trade deadline deals that have gone down over the past ten years. Here are the "biggest" deals in terms of significance then and the longer term impact. We obviously don't know the full impact of some of the more recent deals, but we'll do our best to guess.

Catching Up With The NHL
by
T.O. Whenham
I live in Canada, so I am surrounded by a skewed awareness of the NHL. It is a condition of citizenship here that you are able to discuss the power play woes of teams, the playoff prospects of the nearest squad, and the injuries that are keeping Canadian stars out of action, even if you are far from a hockey fan. I know, and frankly I'm thankful, that the rest of the world isn't obsessed with hockey like my fellow Canadians are.

NHL Draft: Despite No Notable Picks, the San Jose Sharks Still Had A Productive Draft
by
Scott Semmler
The San Jose Sharks went out on a limb on Draft Day 2011 and acquired defenseman Brent Burns from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for winger Devin Setoguchi, top forward prospect Charlie Coyle and their 28th overall draft pick. Heading into the 2011 NHL Draft, the focus for the Sharks was centered around building for the future. That is exactly what the Sharks achieved without even owning a first-round pick at the end of the day.

NHL Geological Map Must Change To Satisfy Everyone
by
Mike R Keitsch
Too many NHL teams in the southern United States are not making a profit either because they have losing records or they are just in the wrong location. Both factors coincide evenly for most but the hockey scene needs to move north in hopes of turning over revenue and potential fans.

NHL and NHLPA Still Have Plenty of Time to Save the Hockey Season
by
Robert Trundle
It appears the National Hockey League through Gary Bettman is entrenched in its position. They have now proposed a 2-week moratorium on CBA negotiations. This certainly does not sound good from a fan's point of view. However, it is surely a move by the league to put pressure on the NHLPA hierarchy from the rank and file.

Stop Rewarding Failure - A Better System For the NHL
by
Gary J. Wilson
March can be a very troubling month for hockey fans. It's this time of year that roughly 1/4 of fans are placed in the unfair position of outwardly cheering for their team to win, while inwardly, (almost subconsciously) almost hoping they lose.

NHL Off-Season Moves - Fantasy Impact
by
Gary J. Wilson
Most of the major off season moves this summer were obviously made with an eye towards capturing the Cup. While these deals will play a big role in the fortunes of these NHL franchises, they barely register on the radar in terms of fantasy hockey impact.

Heatley Trade and Other News
by
Josh Lind
Dany Heatley is now a member of the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks got a pretty good deal too, though, which is a statement that makes sense if you've been following along.
