How Your School's Rank Affects Your HSC Results
by
Jenny Wilbrecht
If you are a student of a 'good' school (e.g. one that ranks in the top 50 in the state), you are not necessarily automatically advantaged in terms of how well you will do in your HSC. When your external exams and internal ranks are assessed to calculate your aligned marks and UAI, you will simply be a student number to the BOS.

HSC Chemistry
by
Gordon Guo
HSC Chemistry is one of the most rewarding HSC subjects you can choose. In terms of scaling, Chemistry has consistently been the highest scaled HSC science course, compared to Physics and Biology. Chemistry also provides a very useful foundation for university courses in the health sciences fields (Medicine, Pharmacy and Medical science in particular).

HSC Scaling and Its Importance
by
Manoj Tiwari
HSC scaling is a popular topic to HSC students and parents, and is often an area that is commonly misunderstood. Scaling is important as it affects all students aspiring to get into university after the HSC. A commonly misunderstood concept is the relationship between HSC marks and scaled marks. HSC marks are the marks the Board of Studies awards you, and appear on your Record of Achievement.

The HSC Mindset
by

We are now into Term 4 of 2009. This means all year 11 have just moved onto year 12, and are in their first Term of their HSC. How to Do Well in the HSC Sciences
by
Manoj Tiwari
Doing well in HSC sciences requires a slightly different approach than HSC maths or English subjects. HSC sciences, like Chemistry, Physics and Biology, place a heavy focus on the syllabus. Detailed knowledge and familiarisation of the syllabus is very important.

Losing Momentum After the HSC Trials
by
Manoj Tiwari
Now that most students have finished their HSC trials at school, they can relax for a short while knowing that they have finished the last of their school assessments. However, students need to be careful not to lose the momentum they've gained so far.

HSC Tutoring
by
Manoj Tiwari
Many parents and students feel that HSC tutoring is a self-fulfilling requirement, purely because if everyone else is getting outside of school tutoring, they must also need tutoring just to keep up with their peers. The HSC is a competitive pursuit, and students are competing with each other for a limited number of highly sought-after university placements. From this perspective, we can understand why HSC tutoring can be a self-fulfilling requirement.
