ATAR to Replace All UAI's
by
Manoj Tiwari
The UAC announced earlier this month that the UAI system will be replaced by the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank). The conversion of UAI to ATAR aligns NSW's system of measuring HSC performance for the purpose of university admissions to that of other states. The ATAR will replace all UAI's, starting with the year 12 students in 2009, and will be a rank-based score out of 99.95 (instead of 100.00).

Minimising Human Error During HSC Exams
by
Manoj Tiwari
By virtue of its definition, human error is something we all do. In the more quantitative HSC subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, human error can be a big cause of losing marks in exams. For example, how often have you walked out of an exam room, and realise only moments later that you've lost a few marks in a question or two due to 'silly mistakes'? Or when, coming out of an exam room, you chat with your friends about how they did question X Y Z etc and realising you missed a tiny detail that cost you marks? This happens all too often for many students, and the truth is, human error happens to all students, even the top ones.

Losing Momentum After the HSC Trials
by
Manoj Tiwari
Now that most students have finished their HSC trials at school, they can relax for a short while knowing that they have finished the last of their school assessments. However, students need to be careful not to lose the momentum they've gained so far.

Accelerating an HSC Subject
by
Manoj Tiwari
The term 'accelerating' refers to doing a HSC subject one year earlier than usual. This usually means completing one or several HSC subjects during year 11. Some schools allow some of their top students to choose a subject to accelerate in. This is certainly a common practice in the higher-ranked selective schools.
