A non-EU resident may find it hard to obtain a resident visa in the EU and thus enjoy free circulation in the 26 European countries that are members of the so-called Schengen Space. By making an investment of at least EUR 0.5m in Portuguese property or of at least EUR 1m in a Portuguese business (less if the business leads to the creation of at least 10 jobs), the investor may obtain a Portuguese resident visa for him and his immediate family and keep this status by spending a mere couple of weeks per year in the country (only one week in the first year), not necessarily on consecutive days. Coupled with this, the investor may also apply for the "non-habitual resident" status, a tax-resident status that may allow him/her to enjoy virtually tax-free living for at least 10 years.

I sometimes get mad when people tell me that socialized medicine is the best way to go. They point to various Nordic countries, and even Canada and the UK as proof of their argument. The taxes in these other countries are too high, and their standard of living is too low, Americans would not be satisfied with that, nor should anyone in the middle class in the United States believe all that nonsense. Folks with money are leaving those other countries, they're trying to come here, and why do you think that is?

Euro 2008 Quarter Finals - Surprises Or Disappointments

Since day one the 2008 European Championship has been filled with surprises as we have witnessed how many of the favorite teams to be part of the second round have been left out or are still struggling to keep alive. A clear example is the Azzuri or the Italian team which was one of the strongest groups to take to Cup home but the real story was different. Since their first match against the Netherlands; the Italians had a tough time and they ended losing 3 to 0; a much unexpected first match that we could hardly believe. Then Italy played its second rival Romania last June 13th where we saw a more aggressive team but unfortunately for the Azzuri their first goal was eliminated and the game finished in a draw.

In Denmark the Jutes merged with the Danes; in Sweden the Geats merged with the Swedes; in England, the Angles merged with the Saxons to form the Anglo-Saxons.
