In the autumn of 1680, the people of Manhattan were overwhelmed with fear and horror when a gigantic comet made its blazing appearance in the sky above them. Many people believed that the end of the world had come. Every church in Europe resounded with the supplications of terrified congregants, and in New York there was a day of fasting in the hope that a wrathful God might be appeased and spare the world. We now know that comets do not herald disaster, but are weary and dazzling refugees from the outer regions of our Solar System. In September 2012, astronomers announced that a new and incredibly brilliant comet is heading our way, and it seems to be following the same path as the Great Comet of 1680.

Crash of the Comet - Was Jupiter Changed?

If we hit a comet in the face will the comet return the favor? If a comet hits our planet and has an effect, do you suppose that a comet hitting another planet might also have an effect on that planet? If the Earth can be affected, any other planet should also be affected and size might not matter in this instance. If a planet is affected by such impact, could that in any way interrupt the flow of its energy, change the effect of its energy, or alter astrological readings based on that disrupted energy?

What is a Comet?

Comets are small Solar System bodies that are caught in the Sun's orbit. When a comet is close to the sun they exhibit a visible coma, otherwise known as a tail, which effects the solar radiation from the comet's nucleus. Comet nuclei are made up of loose collections of ice, dust, and small rocky particles.

Naughty Little Comets

There are certain small objects that frolic around playfully in our Sun's family that obstinately refuse to be easily categorized. Main Belt Comets (MBCs) are such objects! They are a recently recognized new group twirling around within the Main Asteroid Belt, that lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. These strange little worldlets possess both the physical characteristics of comets and the orbital characteristics of asteroids, and their origins have proven somewhat difficult to determine. Some astronomers now suggest that the members of this weird family are the shattered fragments of larger Main Belt asteroids that were destroyed in smash-ups with other asteroids.

Generally speaking, scientists believe that comets go round and round the solar system until they run into something, something big like a planet. Although recently we have noticed that some asteroids and comets end up hitting each other, when they do - both of the courses are altered. And sometimes one or both are completely destroyed due to the impact.
