Snowden's Huge Gamble Leaking Massive Data Collection Story
by
Bill Honer
Edward Snowden had a well-paying job as an intelligence analyst with high security clearance. Although already depicted by some conservative politicians as a "technician", he was in fact an analyst who had been a former senior adviser to the CIA. Edward Snowden and intelligence analyst living in Hawaii, which is to say he was living in paradise. I say that as a former resident of Hawaii. In effect, he sacrificed a large salary and pleasant lifestyle to inform the American people how their privacy rights had been eliminated and abused by both Congress and the Administration. Will the result be worth the sacrifice?

The Espionage Act of 1917 was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson as an incentive against individuals "protesting" against World War I. The Snowden Effect in New Zealand
by
Kristen Claire Jones
In June 2013 Edward Snowden exposed the practice of mass surveillance being carried out by the US's NSA not only on it's own citizens but also on nearly everyone else around the world. We also learned that the UK's GCQH has access to and monitors the network cables that carry much of the worlds telephone calls and Internet traffic. While the US appears to be the leader in surveillance activity, other country's including New Zealand's own Government also covets similar powers with the introduction of its GSCB amendment bill.

by
Ross Monnett

The Government Is Snooping Into The Personal Information Of Private Citizens
by
Robert Bradshaw
Recently, it has been coming out that our government has been snooping into the personal data and information of private citizens. This isn't just a recent incident that has been uncovered either. This type of behavior by our government has been going on for a very long time. The difference now is that we are discovering how extensive this snooping is. It is now time for us as a nation to turn the microscope back onto our government so that everyone can see what is really going on behind the curtain of their government sponsored media.

The Surveillance State Through the PRISM of Fiction
by
Tony MC
Few sci-fi writers of the past could have envisaged a future where we are all Little Brothers, constantly 'spying' on our friends and family through Facebook and Twitter; and gladly giving away our own geolocations, timelines, photos, curriculum vitae, uninformed opinions and television viewing habits for others to spy on... including Big Brothers like the NSA, GCHQ and their Chinese counterparts.
