Farmers Almanac
The Bible, Farmers Almanac, and Prophecy
by
Mark Replogle
Both the Bible and the Farmers Almanac contain prophecy of future events. The other meaning of the word prophecy concerns how God feels about you. There is value in learning to use both types of prophecy well.

What is an Almanac?
by
David Bunch
An almanac is a book published once each year to give many useful facts and to be a complete calendar for the coming year. If you have an almanac, you can know beforehand many things that will happen on each day of the year. It will tell you what time the sun will rise and when it will set, and how full the moon will be, on each day. If you live near an ocean, the almanac will tell you at what times the tide will be high and when it will be low.

Farmers Between a Weather Rock and a Diesel Fuel Hard Place
by
Lance Winslow
American Midwest Farmers have gotten into a pickle none of which is their own fault. What is it this time you ask? The Farmers in America or at least the Family Farmer is a dying breed and has been now for nearly 80 years. Well it gets worse and not just with Family Farms, but with corporate farms as well and this affects every thing from potatoes to corn for Ethanol to livestock feed and harvesting.

Grier's Almanac: 200 Years of Service
by
Matthew Keegan
Almanacs are one of my favorite "reads" and Grier's Almanac is one of them. Now celebrating its 200th anniversary, Grier's continues to shape and influence people's lives from Virginia to Texas.

Grumpy Bob's Almanac, Origin and French Horoscope, Et Al
by
John W. Poole
It was in the early days of our nation that a potato farmer from Pennsylvania met Benjamin Franklin, and immediately considered the printer and amateur scientist to be completely full of crap. However it must be said that the potato farmer considered everyone to be completely full of crap. When Franklin began to publish Poor Richard's Almanac, the potato farmer was incensed at what he called, " The dissemination and propagation of fruity blathering.

The Chinese Almanac - Chinese Calendar System
by
Linus Leong
All ancient civilisations have their own slant of calendar record and almanacs in particular have been in existence since antiquity across the globe. The Chinese Almanac or "U", is a book, or table, containing forecasts and outlook for the year.

The Home Vegetable Garden
by
Roger Hardieway
In truth, one of the neatest possible effects from visiting others in their gardens is the generation of new Ideas. Start your garden by partnering with some one at first. My experience with vegetable gardening was with my dad at age eleven. He was invited to use a ten acre tract of land from Ms Studts; a lady who needed someone to keep an eye on the property a few years until her family's estate became settled

Auspicious Dates Selection
by
Garrett Lee
It is a commonly heard practice among the older generations of Chinese to choose an auspicious date and time to perform certain rituals such as bathing of a child during their first month of birth to mundane matters such as taking a road trip for whatever important or quasi-routine significance. The most commonly available resource or tool is that of the Chinese Almanac or Tong Shu which the Cantonese-speaking readers preferably called it "Tong Sheng" (literally translated as Total Victory.) For the illiterate of the past, the most commonly adopted approach would be to choose the Red print text printed therein as "safe date" to use and avoid the Black print text therein. However, this quick and dirty method is severely flawed and that Red print text dates are only good for certain events or matters and not suitable for others. This is the little known caveat that majority of lay people are not aware of till today. Thus, a good understanding of its significance is important whether it is safe to use it or otherwise. The same analogy applies to Black print text dates.

A Vegetable Planting Calendar Keeps The Gardener On Track
by
Alan Stables
Some may consider a farmer's almanac calendar the only vegetable planting calendar they need, but they might be wrong. Farmers have used almanacs for hundreds of years to chart moon and zodiac occurrences to help them have a better chance for a good crop. Just as following the planting zone for an area, following an almanac calendar is a good place to start, not the absolute gospel.
