by
Karen Samartha Walker
The reigning Wimbledon and US Open champion Serena Williams was shown the door by the prodigious Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam of Asia-Pacific and the world was left shocked by the early departure of the American from Melbourne. The five time Australian Open winner was picked as the overwhelming favorite for the title in the Victorian capital by the pundits, but the experts were forced to bite their nails when the teenager pulled up the biggest upset of the tournament.

The Decline of Teenage Domination in Women's Tennis
by
Karen Samartha Walker
Earlier, there was an era in women's tennis when teenagers not only made their presence felt on the tennis court but also dominated those in the top order of the sport. During the last decade of the twentieth century, former World No. 1 such as Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, and Jennifer Capriati exerted much influence on much older and experienced players. However, today we can see that not a single teenager are featured in the top ten of the WTA rankings.

Nothing Fails Like Prayer
by
Donald Ardell
I wanted to title this essay, "If The Choice Is Between A Wing And A Prayer, Go With The Wing: Another Prayer Study Crashes And Burns" but decided that might be a little long. But, that is what it's about. One in a long line of studies on the "efficacy" of intercessory prayer was done at a Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City by religious researchers (Herbert Benson, et. al.) with funds from a religious foundation. Are you already skeptical about the integrity of this study? You should be, but it's of interest despite the dubious impartiality of work done.
