Alfonso Soriano
Alfonso Soriano
by
Pauline Go
Alfonso Soriano is becoming one of the best players in the National League year in and year out. Not only is he getting the job done in the field, but at the plate Soriano is performing in a big way as well. The bottom line is that Soriano is a mainstay in the league, and if the Washington Nationals continue to build around him they will be in great shape for the next few years to come. From his position in left field Soriano gets the job done every game of season. He may not be as flashy as some other guys, but Soriano has been known to make some great plays while roaming around the grounds in left field.

Cubs - Soriano Managing Cubs Batting Order
by
Freddy C
Chicago Cubs' slugger, Alfonso Soriano, has wielded power not just in the lineup for the Chicago Cubs, but when filling out the lineup card as well. Alfonso Soriano was hailed as one of the keys to finally bringing the Chicago Cubs a World Series title. The reality is that he is a useful cog in the Cubs machine, but a far cry from the savior the Cubs PR machine advertised.

Fans Hate The Players: Part II

Robert Carberry
Player arrogance shows up again and again. Steroids, bad attitudes, etc. Fans have the real power, though.

MLB's Soriano Hung Out to Dry By Nationals
by
Diane M. Grassi
Before all of the so-called expert pundits and baseballs' fans have at it with their generalizations about the latest supposed "spoiled professional athlete who should grow up," it would be wise to examine exactly which athlete they are attacking and the circumstances involved.

The Cubs Will Lose Their Leadoff Hitter For Six Weeks
by
Cindy Ferguson
The Chicago Cubs have been having a good season until now, their game has been stable and they currently hold one of the best records in the major league, trying to make a post season appearance in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1908, but they received some very bad news this week; their left fielder and leadoff hitter Alfonso Soriano could be out of the field for six weeks due to a broken finger.

2009 Spring Training Preview - Chicago Cubs
by
Chuck Zodda
The Cubs finished up a superb 2008 season by winning the NL Central in relatively easy fashion with a final record of 97-64, with one game being canceled due to inclement weather. Unfortunately, the Cubs were then swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in three games in the Divisional Series, leading to yet another crushing exit for Cubs fans to deal with over the winter. The outlook for 2009 still looks strong, with the addition of Milton Bradley in right field and a returning core that includes standouts Derrek Lee, Geovany Soto, and Aramis Ramirez, along with starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Look for the Cubs to be the favorite in the NL Central again in 2009, led by a solid offense and good pitching across the board.

Baseball Changes Don't Always Go as Planned
by
Lenny Del Genio
It's important to study all the offseason changes that baseball teams make. Aggressive teams with money will make moves to try and upgrade their team. The Cubs, Yankees and Red Sox, for instance, were big spenders in the offseason. But it's just as important to examine these teams on a daily basis to see if moves have made a difference, because many times things go wrong or don't work out the way they were planned.

The Dish: Fonzie Totally Not Cool
by
Christopher Harris
What did the Washington Nationals expect? No, I don't mean what did they expect when they traded for Alfonso Soriano, a defensive liability with a long loopy swing good pitchers with breaking stuff can master. I mean what did they expect when they allowed Jim Bowden to continue to be their general manager? How much evidence do you need that a guy shouldn't be managing the store while the store is up for sale? Even from a pure baseball perspective, I don't like Brad Wilkerson for Soriano, and that's ignoring Sorry's $10 mil per.

A Year In Review - MLB 2007's Consensus 1st Round
by
Jonathan Lawoyin
Congratulations to those owners who knew to take A-Rod with their 1st round pick and HanRam with their 2nd. On the flip side, fans across the nation can sympathize with owners who fell in love with their one-two, Soriano-Hafner combination... how's that Prozac helping?

Count on the Cubs
by
Jimmy Boyd
The Cubs finally decided to try the old trick of spending $300 million dollars to buy a championship. It's not much of a trick, but it has been a surefire winning strategy for the Yankees among other top dollar teams. Spending the big bucks isn't something that Chicago's management has liked to do historically, but the Cubs can't afford to endure another 66-96 last place finish.
