It is difficult not to become fascist in response to fundamentalist terrorism. However, common-sense is needed in the application of the law if human rights are to be maintaned while terrorism is curbed.

Until recently, it was understood that the Equality Act 2010 specifically excluded political beliefs from the definition of "religion or belief". However, a recent case in the European Court of Justice suggests this may have to change, and that people may also be protected from detrimental treatment in the workplace on the grounds of their political beliefs or affiliations.
