A coveted trophy awarded to the winner of the America's Cup match races between two yachts, the Cup is to vie for. The world's top notch sailors, yacht designers, wealthy entrepreneurs, and sponsors get on board, tying nautical knots to launch a seaworthy vessel in the hope of decking the competition. Shouting an ahoy to native Rhode Islanders and visitors to set sail through the history of yacht racing by touring Bristol's Herreshoff Marine Museum/America's Cup Hall of Fame, one of our nation's most prominently historic maritime institutions when it comes to filling America's Cup with a legacy of victory.

It is by far the most popular and the most heralded regatta in the sports of sailing. Known as the Holy Grail of yachting, The America's Cup is also the oldest active international competition where a trophy is at stake.

The early phases of the Louis Vuitton Cup have been working out beautifully for Alinghi. Valencia has been dogged by an almost complete absence of breeze, and the race organisers managed only three days' racing from the first nine days of competition.

Racing is now underway in the early stages of the Louis Vuitton Cup, and unfortunately my crystal ball wasn't working as I write this in late March, so I can't promise you that what I foresaw was going to happen, actually has happened! However, what I do know is that to a large extent, all the months of speculation that have been leading up to the event will have been settled very quickly.

Gavin Brady was one of two high profile resignations from BMW Oracle Racing last year, with tactician John Kostecki having left a few weeks earlier. Brady clearly wasn't happy with being moved off the helm to call tactics, while skipper Chris Dickson stepped up to the wheel.

The America's Cup - New Zealand ('David') Vs the Rest ('Goliath')
by
Norman A Sutton
New Zealand is a nation of sailors - in fact it has been said that Kiwis own more boats per head of population than any other country in the World. So I guess it comes as no surprise that they have a World re-known reputation when it comes to sailing. Take the America's Cup for example. Currently being sailed in San Francisco Bay, Emirates Team New Zealand is looking very likely to take back the cup from the current holder, 'Goliath' Oracle Team USA. Talk about a David and Goliath story!
