Its that time of year again where Dutch Elm Disease Rears its ugly head. Local councils work hard year after year to limit its spread. Dutch Elm Disease control in Sussex is of particular importance with the national collection of elms located in Brighton and a large collection of specimen elms in Eastbourne. Its a little known fact that the tallest elm in the UK is located in Eastbourne along Paradise Drive.

West Africa Theological Seminary Library is at the crossroad. The traditional library practices and modern technological advances must be developed and embraced if it is to be relevant in this information age. It is a very high price which must be paid otherwise the library will eventually become like the legendary character who slept for twenty years at Gasgill Mountain in Gulliver's Travels and eventually woke up to find the world completely changed.

AOD May Decimate the Oak Population

Woodland Heritage, a coalition of 10 conservation and business groups, are seeking £10 million over the next five years to find a cure for Acute Oak Decline (AOD), a disease with the potential to change the British landscape even more than Dutch elm disease managed 30-years ago. Both of Britain's native oak species, pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), and sessile oak (Q. petraea) are affected. AOD is thought to be caused by a previously unknown bacteria that causes trees to "bleed" black fluid, killing them within five years.
