Jennifer Lawrence After "The Hunger Games"
by
Zack Mandell
Long before she picked up a bow and arrow to play heroine Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games," Jennifer Lawrence was making a name for herself. Though she became the highest-earning female action hero of all time almost overnight, she still had quite a bright future ahead of her even before she became a resident of the fictional Panem. Like most Hollywood actors, she had to make her way up the ladder, toiling for several years in TV movies and appearing in 24 episodes of the maligned "The Bill Engvall Show.

The Wild Rose by Jennifer Donnelly: A Review
by
Holly Weiss
The Wild Rose by Jennifer Donnelly is a jam-packed combination of historical fiction and romance with a healthy dose of adventure. The final installment in the "Rose Trilogy" is released by Hyperion on August 2, 2011. Called by The Washington Post Book World as "a master of pacing and plot," Donnelly paints with a vivid palette of espionage, blackmail, steamy romance, exotic places, women's suffrage and politics.

Review: The Hunger Games
by
Jaskee Hickman
Like the book, the film that goes by the same name tells the story of a teenage girl named Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) who lives with her mother and her sister Prim (Willow Shields). Katniss and her family live in what is now known as Panem, but was once called North America. In Panem, the powers that be hold an event once a year where one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts compete in a battle to the death competition known as the Hunger Games.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Hunger Games
by
Andy Gavin
The film: Of course this is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, particularly for book lovers. I have to say that it executed effectively and faithfully as a translation. The story is identical to the book, although reduced of course. At a meta-level I thought that the pre-arena period, although a tad too long, was actually slightly better than in the book, and the area slightly inferior.

Movie Review - The Hunger Games (2012) (PG-13)
by
Chris Pandolfi
That The Hunger Games is so timely and intelligent is precisely the reason why it's also so frightening. It depicts a time and place in which the failures of mass society are exploited for the entertainment of the privileged few. In this case, it's in the form of an annual competition to the death, one that's captured via hidden cameras and aired for the rest of the world to see. Whatever they call it in this alternate reality, it would be called reality TV in ours. Thank God, we have not devolved to the point of watching people kill each other. We have, however, sunk to some pretty low depths. We celebrate people like Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay, who achieve notoriety by being bullies. We watch as groups of men or women vie for a marriage proposal from a woman or man they know nothing about. We witness Kim Kardashian earn millions for doing nothing, apart from looking beautiful.

Movie Review of The Hunger Games
by

Unless you've been living on the remote outskirts of civilization, you've undoubtedly been seeing and/or hearing coverage about the latest best-selling book turned movie, "The Hunger Games". As someone who, on the advice of a good friend, read the entire trilogy and who looked forward with some hesitation to the film adaptation, allow me to tell you if they made a successful jump from page to screen.

Movie Review: X-Men: First Class (2011)
by
Joel Massie
It is undoubtedly a tune of excitement, or at least curiosity, for fans of the X-Men characters to see what turns the movie franchise takes with origin stories. As expected, massive liberties are taken with every mutant and while some are clever and others contrived, a few are reworked from the ground up to the point that they're recognizable only by name to their comic book counterparts. It may be admirable to blend mutant lore into world history to fabricate realism, but is battling Nazis and contending with the Cuban Missile Crisis the best way to do so?
