Movie Review - War Horse (2011) (PG-13)
by
Chris Pandolfi
War Horse must have been a tremendous challenge for director Steven Spielberg, as the film is a balancing act between two of his well-established styles, namely overt sentimentalism and horrific depictions of war. On paper, this sounds like a recipe for disaster. On screen, it comes across beautifully. Don't ask me how he made it work, because I have absolutely no idea. All I know is, like Spielberg's own E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, this is one of those rare films that can positively and without a hint of facetiousness be described using cliched terms such as "crowd pleaser" and "tearjerker."

Movie Review - The Deep Blue Sea (2012) (R)
by
Chris Pandolfi
As well made as I found The Deep Blue Sea, I'm amazed that it took ninety-four minutes to say what could easily have been said in as little as fifteen or twenty. Adapted from the stage play by Terence Rattigan, it tells the incredibly simple story of a woman who leaves behind a secure but sexless marriage for a passionate but reckless affair. With neither relationship able to give her all of what she wants, she must make a choice between going on living or dying alone. Plot wise, there really is nothing more to the film than that. I have not seen or read the original play, although on the basis of what I've read about it, it seems like one of the characters, an ex-doctor, had a much more prominent role than he had in the film. I can't help but wonder if his inclusion would have made the story seem more substantive and less dragged out.

Review: The Avengers
by
Jaskee Hickman
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), leader of the agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. finds it necessary to recruit several people that he feels are the only ones that can save the world. Those people feature the likes of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chirs Hemsworth) and The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). This super group unites with Fury to take down a menacing force known as Loki (Tom Hiddleston), an extraterrestrial dead set on ruling Earth and everything in it.

The Avengers Review (No Spoilers)
by
Veronica T Maddox
I consider myself lucky. I just saw an early screening of "The Avengers", and it gives me an opportunity to dish. Overall, a lot of parts in the film were great, some were bad, and some just left me scratching my head wondering what the heck just happened.

Should This Be the Summer of Villains Instead of Heroes?
by
Simon Walters
I loved the Thor movie. I thought it was fantastic and finally delivered something comic book movies have been struggling with for a long while. A classic villain.

Which Comic Book Movie Will Be The Best In 2012?
by
Simon Walters
2011 was a huge year for comic book movies. X-Men: First Class was the best-reviewed superhero movie of the year, but Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger weren't that far behind. The only disappointment was Green Lantern. Now with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man coming up this year, I'm going to look at what movie I think will triumph best over fans and critics.

Carl Verano
One of the first things that people look into at the beginning of the year is what movies are going to come out within the next twelve months. This builds up excitement for the next blockbuster. So, this 2011, what are the movies that we should look forward to?

Movie Review: Thor 3D
by
Stephen Aspeling
Thor is a joke. Who in their right minds would believe that a blonde muscular caped Scandinavian would possess super strength, the power of flight and run amok whenever the sound of battle filled the air with a big old hammer? It's funny to say that he's the odd one out, because the whole lot of underpants and Lycra-clad superpower boys don't fit in...

Movie Review: Thor (2011)
by
Joel Massie
There's a lot of substance to Norse mythology, with its rich layers of gods, their worlds and their feats. There are also a lot of characters and storylines surrounding the Marvel Thor comic books. As if this undertaking wasn't enough, the Thor movie chooses to include two thorough plot lines in vastly different locales, a love story, a redemption arc and a monarchist coup subplot, an army of giant arctic beasts, and a nearly unstoppable alien juggernaut.
