Scott Carpenter
Posthumanism in John Carpenter's The Thing
by
Carl Doherty
Society has always held a curiosity for the non-conformal body, the deviant, the abomination, and the monster. From Beowulf's Grendel, the Victorian sideshow freak and Victor Frankenstein's laboratory creation, and through to the modern cinematic creations such as Giger's Alien, the posthuman has both fascinated and appalled. In some cases, such as with Mary Shelley's unfortunate beast, the monster has garnered pity; a misunderstood misfit that is sympathised more than it is feared.

Dark Star (1974) Review
by
Jonathan K. King
Dark Star is an entertaining science trip to mid 21st century space, with some interesting characters who have serious communication problems. Not everybody might have a taste for the film though, since it's a low budget sci-fi with a humorous angle.

Funding for Affordable Housing Trust Fund Uncertain
by
Sean M Carpenter
The housing and financial crises that sent the United States into a deep recession had many causes. One that was common to both was the practice of approving mortgages for people who, just a few short years prior, would not have qualified. In some instances, applicants did not even have to prove their income.
