Smokey Robinson - The King of Motown
by
Robert D Hill
William "Smokey" Robinson, Jr. has earned the title "King of Motown" for making countless hits and consistent contributions to the label that he helped to get started. Robinson was born on February 19, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, and was raised in the same place's North End. His nickname was originally "Smokey Joe," given by his uncle because of Robinson's love of cowboy movies, and this was later shortened to "Smokey" when he was teenager.

The term, "Rock 'n' Roll", was first used by Cleveland disc jockey, Alan Freed, in 1951. The music style of rock 'n' roll evolved from 'rhythm 'n' blues', which came from the blues.

They Don't Make Singers Like That Anymore!
by
Peter Cross
Elvis was the first great rock and roll singer, and Robert Plant was the last one. During the 1950's, original vocal styles literally oozed out of the radio every day, and the great singers of rock and roll peaked during the 1960's and 1970's.

The History of the Temptations
by
Robert D Hill
The history of The Temptations is long and convoluted, involving a number of bands commencing in 1955. Four childhood friends, namely Paul Williams, Wiley Waller, Kel Osbourne and Eddie Kendricks formed The Cavaliers in 1955. Starting in Birmingham, Alabama, their hometown, the group moved as a trio to Cleveland and then to Detroit when Wiley Waller left the group. In Detroit, they became known as The Primes.

Music: The Beginning of Rock and Roll For Me - (1955)
by
Jerry Aragon
NOSTALGIA: A LITTLE TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE! It was the mid-1950's, and my family could not afford a television set, so we listened to the radio. And, there were two peculiar and unusual voices I heard on the radio at that time...the voices of Little Richard and Wolfman Jack! Many feel like the song, Rock Around The Clock (Bill Haley and the Comets) got it all started in 1954! THE BEGINNING OF ROCK AND ROLL! WHAT A GREAT TIME TO GROW UP! And, in the year 2006, rock and roll - and especially the oldies, are more popular than ever!
