Heroes Reborn

Heroes Reborn
Writing an Analytical Essay Using a Model: Forsyth's Hero Journey, "Whispering Wind"
by
Susan O'Connor
After studying a number of hero journey pieces of literature, my students write essays explaining the connection between the archetypal inmost cave and the motif of life/death/rebirth in various works. This writing is springboard for learning specific organizational skills that will help students create fluent, clear, and interesting papers.

Movie Review: Johnny English Reborn
by
Li Ping Irene Yap
It has been eight years from the time when English was first seen, and a lot of things have taken place since then. Fired and disgraced following a failed mission in Mozambique, he has been utilizing a monastery in Asia as a physical-training and spiritual retreat.

The Way of the Cross - The Hero's Journey - Part 3
by
Andrew Toth
Was Christ the Ultimate Hero? Here we bring in a new perspective on the Way of the Cross and discuss it in terms of the Hero's Journey. And it's a good match!

The Hero's Journey
by
Andrew Toth
When I first learnt to write I had a tutor who was a bit, well... "arty". He was a damned good writer, but he wanted me to be, shall we say... creative! I'd write a short action-thriller story and he would send it back. "It's been done before!" he would inevitably say, as if that said it all.

Was Darth Vader A Hero Or Villain In The Star Wars Movies?
by
Jaina Hess
While most people would say that Darth Vader is one of the most famous villains in the history of movies, there are others who claim that he was actually a hero for killing Darth Sidious and bringing the rein of the evil Star Wars Empire to an end. Which do you think he is: hero or bad guy?

Batman Costume Reborn Again
by
John D Blake
Da da nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh! BATMAN! Out of all the super heroes, Batman has to be my favorite. He has got all these cool accessories, thanks to Alfred, but his only super power is his goodness.

Magic - The Gathering Strategy - Idiot Life in Post-Conflux Extended
by
Rich K
We're going to be looking at the impact Conflux has on the Extended metagame for Magic: the Gathering, especially revolving around what Path to Exile has in store for a format that runs the least number of basic lands needed to function. Will a "free" Swords to Plowshares impact Extended just that much? Also, we take a look at the new anti-Faeries card Volcanic Fallout and its potential impact.

Five Tips on How to Make Your Fictional Characters Engaging
by
Sheila C Skillman
So you've begun your novel and perhaps you've already had lots of ideas for your characters. They will probably be a composite of different people you've met in the past, or even different aspects of yourself. But how do you make them engaging? And not just the hero, but several characters? - and dare I say it, even the main antagonist or villain? Because no-one is completely good or completely bad; and for a villain to be truly convincing there must be some elements of the character which the reader can either recognise, relate to, or even empathise with - yes, even Gollum and Voldemort!

Kid Icarus: Uprising - Review of the Nintendo 3DS Game
by
Stephen T Maxwell
Out of all the great games I play each and every year, it seems there is one title per year that I can't seem to put down until it gets naturally lost in the shuffle of other games, and gradually fades from memory. In all honesty, I really, really didn't expect the reemergence of Nintendo's long lost hero Kid Icarus to be that game.

The Rainbow Tapestry
by
Barend Hermanus Swart
This is a fable about a man's journey to find his way back to himself in a dark lonely world. His tale is a universal one which all human beings undertake in their own way, and it is written in a way that leaves it open for the reader to interpret for their own benefit.
