Working Forever? Harman to Abolish Retirement Age
by
Jonathan Cassidy
Deputy Labour Leader Harriet Harman has hinted at government plans to abolish a compulsory redundancy age, which will make it impossible for an employer to force anyone to retire on the grounds of their age. In a speech to the campaign group Age UK, she called the current compulsory retirement age of 65 "arbitrary." It does not fit the current business world, she claimed, when at 65 most people feel that they still have plenty more energy left in them for a vibrant working life.

Employment Law Solicitors, the Prime Minister and Equal Pay
by
Jessica L Moss
35 years after the introduction of equal pay legislation, employment law solicitors are still confronted regularly with cases of women earning less than men for like work. The disparity in earnings is estimated at around 12% for full time workers. Employment law solicitors and women's groups have welcomed the announcement of the new Prime Minister, David Cameron this week that he supports part of a Labour law, introduced by Harriet Harman as part of the Equality Act, which may force employers to publish information on whether they pay men more than women.

Women Voice Concern Over Equality During Election
by
Sotirios Sarmpezoudis
The election has sparked a number of debates, mainly from the three main political parties, but also from women who feel they have been underrepresented during the campaign. Last week a number of female Labour parliamentary candidates spoke out about how the leaders' wives are the only women getting attention, despite the fact that a record number of women are standing for the party.

Women and Love
by
Vernon Moat
The current vogue for equality as devised by Harriet Harman not only promotes anti-male propaganda, it is destabilising the female role in society. Women no longer support their men intellectually. They scorn their ideas and opinions.

by
Mischa Weston-Green
January 2011 will see a 2.5% rise in VAT, increasing from 17.5% to 20% and this rise will affect everyone in the country. VAT stands for Value Added Tax and is a tax added to consumer products and goods. This tax is related to the value added to a product as it goes through different production stages such as from manufacturer to distributor, but ultimately it is only the consumer who pays the tax.

If the Schools Won't Teach Your Child Cursive Writing, Will You?
by
Harriet Hodgson
An increasing number of states have eliminated cursive writing from their curriculums. Though cursive writing seems to be disappearing, proponents still exist. The controversy stems from computer technology and the idea that keyboarding is more important than handwriting. As a parent, you have the option of teaching your child, and many resources are available.
