Debt in the Movies - Part 3
by
Francisco Lakay
The movie I.O.U.S.A. both challenges and offers solutions to the ever-increasing American debt problem. Why is America importing more goods than it is exporting?

Blu-Ray Movies Perfect For Halloween
by
Curtis Hoskins
Halloween is just around the corner, and there's no better way to put you in the mood than with some scary horror movies. Below are some of the best Blu-ray movies available. They range from the truly horrifying (Carrie, Halloween, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), to the somewhat lighter side (Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn and The Nightmare Before Christmas).

Film Criticism is Still Important
by
Aaron Weiss
At the Movies is now canceled and Variety has fired their long-time lead film critic, Todd McCarthy. As the film industry changes drastically with the rise of High Definition and the capitalization of 3-D films, interest in film criticism appears to be in a free-fall when it comes to importance in media. Much like the film industry has had to adapt before with the switch from silent films to talkies, film criticism is being left behind in mainstream media outlets.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards - Some Thoughts
by
Ezra Stead
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards have now come and gone, and as usual, I have a few gripes. Nothing too unexpected happened, but you must understand this is my Super Bowl: an excuse to get drunk and yell at the TV each year, so I can't help but complain a bit about some of what went down the morning (and the rest of the week) after. Please bear with me.

Detour - DVD Movie Review
by
Joseph Bruno
The black and white film noir genre is making a huge comeback and scores of old B
W films are now being released on DVD's in bunches. Film noir movies are ones where the protagonist, and mostly everyone else in the movie, are not very sympathetic characters. Think Bogie's Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon.

Nolan's "Inception" A Rare Screen Epic
by
Matthew Mesaros
"Inception" is a rare screen epic that aims to thrill for two-plus hours and agitate for weeks to follow. It can be frustratingly ponderous and uncinematic, but for once a film requires more of its audience than bringing their eyes, ears and social baggage into the theater. One may become lost in its labyrinthine artifice, or in its sheer spectacle, but perhaps that's the point. The film itself warns us early and often, narratively and visually, to pay attention.

Mondovino - A Movie Review
by
Mark A Aselstine
I honestly haven't seen many wine movies (there aren't many made) but the other day at Blockbuster I saw Mondovino on the shelf and thought that a wine movie might be interesting. I hadn't heard about it before my wife and I sat down to watch it and we didn't realize it was documentary style until we took it out of the box. It's a rather complicated documentary and the film makers intentionally leave out any real understandable storyline which to both of us made the work as a whole feel rather incomplete and after it was over left us...

A Brief History of the Microscope
by
Jim Oneil
The microscope is perhaps the most interesting and well-known item that you can see in the science labs all over the world. No doubt that you have even used it at one point in your life, particularly during your school days.
