Merry Christmas or Happy New Holidays?
by
Don Potter
The debate over what is the appropriate greeting for the season has been going on for years. December 25th became an official federal holiday in 1870 when it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. Why, then, has Christmas become the focus of so much controversy?

There Is Nothing Wrong With Wishing People a Merry Christmas, Even If They Are Not Christian
by
Howard Melamed
Even though I am Jewish, I celebrate any holiday that preaches the message of Peace and goodwill: Christmas included. No one should fear or get upset about being wished Merry Christmas. Maybe a person that does not believe in religion to start with, would do justice by saying nothing. Maybe they should say Happy Holiday on government or bank holidays, and leave alone those people that believe in Christmas to say whatever they want to say!

Wishing You an Unapologetic Merry Christmas!
by
Dave MacDonald
In society today, it is not politically-correct to wish others Christmas Greetings. And yet, Christ bore His cross for us, knowing full well that His message of reconciliation and redemption would not be popular with the political and social elite. The least I can do is pick up my own small cross and risk a blank stare or harsh word in return.

Merry Christmas - Has Commercialism Overtaken The True Spirit?
by
Madonna Jeffries
What has happened to the holiday traditions? For the sake of commercialism, stores now decorate the shelves with Halloween candy, Santa Clause figurines and Christmas stockings. It was once customary to allow each holiday its own time for celebration and merriment before allowing the next to breeze into the markets retail aisles.

It's that time of year when the decorations go up, the sale papers swell with bargains, and the stores tell you "Happy Holidays!" WHAT?!

You Can't Say That - Give Me a Break and Merry Christmas to You Anyway!
by
Lance Winslow
"Well, happy holidays to you too I guess," I said to a very politically correct individual who happened to be a devout Christian. But before she left, I asked her; "I thought you were a churchgoer, so, why aren't you wishing the Merry Christmas?" You know what she told me - she told me that she didn't want to offend me in case I might be Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or in case I was celebrating Kwanzaa.
