Duane Shinn
The first cocktail pianists showed the music world that experimenting with music can yield incredible results. From the charm of Eddy Duchin to the musical poetry of Carmen Cavallero to the flamboyant brilliance of Liberace, cocktail pianists shook piano music up in a big way.

Best Museums And Galleries Of Las Vegas Part (1)
by
Kristie Haller
The Serene Spanish-style facade of the Liberace Museum is a vivid contrast to its glittering contents. Founded in 1979, the museum celebrates the life and work of one of Las Vegas's best-loved performers, Liberace (1919- 87). The cars, pianos, and famously bejeweled costumes of this flamboyant personality are exhibited in three sections. The main area houses 18 of Liberace's 39 pianos, and the cars include a rare Rolls Royce covered with mirror tiles and etched galloping horses in which Liberace, dressed to match, would arrive at his Las Vegas show.

The Power of "Acting As If"
by
Jill Ammon-Wexler
Back in the mid 1950's an outrageously flamboyant pianist had dreams of playing to an audience in California's prestigious Hollywood Bowl. The problem? He was entirely unknown. But he had a burning passion for his dream. So this strangely flamboyant pianist saved enough money to rent the Hollywood Bowl on an off night.

Rhinestones - The Great Diamond Imitators
by
Alan Beggerow
A history and appreciation of the rhinestone. What is usually thought of when the word 'rhinestone' is heard? A piece of cheap jewelry, a deceased piano player that wore clothes dripping with the glittering stones, or the song 'Rhinestone Cowboy.' Most of the common associations with the name imply cheapness, bad taste, gaudy, right on down the list of negatives. But rhinestones have a long and varied history that tells otherwise.
