The Chamundi Temple over the Chamundi hills is one of the most eminent temple in Mysore, in view of the fact that Goddess Chamundi or Chamundeshwari is the presiding deity of Mysore. Initially the temple was a tiny one, but over the past few centuries, on account of the benefaction and expansions made by the Mysore Maharajas it has become a big temple. While in the olden days, human and animal sacrifices were regularly made at this temple, but were stopped in the 18th century.

Mysore Painting - The Concept
History Glancing through the pages of traditional Indian Art forms, one can never miss the ancient, yet the most distinctive art form - Mysore Paintings. Considered as one of the non-exhaustive resources in the art world, Mysore Painting belongs to the Mysore city of the Karnataka state of South India. It developed under the patronage of Wodeyars (1399-1947), especially Raja Wodeyar (1578-1617), in the 17th and 18th century. Where once the art genre reached the zenith of glory in the times of Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (1799-1868), it even once faced the phase of probable extinction.

Mysore - The City of Palaces
by
Shan Warn
The very discussion about Mysore brings to mind the amazing palaces and the world renowned Kanjeevaram saris. With it's old world charm, the city of Mysore is very celebrated for it's sandalwood and silk saris. The place was most desired amongst the Maharajas and many chose to build their palaces here because the city had extremely pleasant climate. During the rule of the Wodeyar dynasty, arts and crafts reached it's pinnacle and the city soon became the cultural capital. It is the second largest city in the state of Karnataka, and is only 130 kms away from the international city of Bengaluru.
