Mysore is said to have a glorious past as till the year 1947, Mysore remained the capital of Kingdom of Mysore which was under the rule of the Wodeyar dynasty, it was only during the period of 40-years in the 18th century there was the rule of Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan.

Chamundi Hills and Chamundeshwari Temple at Mysore

The Chamundi Temple over the Chamundi hills is one of the most eminent temple in Mysore, in view of the fact that Goddess Chamundi or Chamundeshwari is the presiding deity of Mysore. Initially the temple was a tiny one, but over the past few centuries, on account of the benefaction and expansions made by the Mysore Maharajas it has become a big temple. While in the olden days, human and animal sacrifices were regularly made at this temple, but were stopped in the 18th century.
